Darren Anderson believes that scientific advancement has changed the world for the better, and science and technology can dramatically improve the human experience. He is the CEO and co-founder of Vive Crop Protection, which is the first company making more sustainable pesticides that create quantifiable results for farmers around the world. While at Vive, the company has raised over $42M CAD, launched products that are now used on 500,000 Ha, and improved the profitability and sustainability of farmers in North America. Vive was the 27th fastest growing company in Canada from 2016-2019. Darren earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Toronto.

Christopher Caputo is a Professor of Chemistry and Canada Research Chair at York University whose research is broadly defined by sustainable chemistry. He is a highly successful scientist, being awarded the 2018 the John Charles Polanyi Prize in Chemistry, the highest honour awarded to early-career scientists by the Province of Ontario. Nevertheless, he is active beyond the academy – prior to his current position, he was Head of Research and Development at Inkbox, a Toronto-based start-up which created the world’s first semi-permanent tattoo. He is passionate about facilitating science communication to the general public, having given numerous presentations on this topic. Chris began to engage in politics while completing his PhD at the University of Toronto, becoming involved in a number of local advocacy groups, eventually culminating with a role as Chief Financial Officer for an unsuccessful municipal city council campaign.
