Meet the Volunteer - Danny DePaola

Danny DePaola has spent most of his life living in south western Ontario. He has his Bachelor of Arts in History and Sociology and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor. In addition to volunteering for Elect STEM as a blogger and data researcher, he currently consults in sales of technology and teaches in his spare time.

His passion for politics stems mainly from his historical and political background in University. He has always been drawn to try and make some sort of change in the system. His journey began with debates alongside long time friend, and one of the founders of Elect STEM, Chris Caputo, who presented him with an opportunity to become part of a growing passionate group of like minded individuals, who are trying to see more scientist become part of the electoral system.

“I align the Elect STEM ideals very close with my own. There aren’t enough people in government, with the correct backgrounds, making the hard decisions.” said Danny. “Making sure that every party, not just one, can have more STEM elected officials, is the beginning of a more well-informed democracy.”

Danny says that volunteering for Elect STEM has been a real eye-opening experience. “To be surrounded by others, working towards a like minded cause, and seeing it come to fruition, it’s a great feeling, and I believe it’ll be beneficial for everyone in the future”. Through his volunteer work, Danny says he has gained a much clearer understanding of the struggles politicians face on many important issues. The pandemic of 2020 opened the floodgates of immediate policy making based on scientific evidence, which he believes should be even more prevalent in politics than it is right now.

Working with Elect STEM, he hopes to pave the road for the STEM community, where more will feel welcomed and obligated, to join their efforts to making a change in government.
